The current state of the automotive sensor industry

  Automotive sensors have a long history of development, and their applications extend from the vehicle itself to the external environment. From the 60s of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century, various body perception sensors have appeared one after another, for example, fuel vehicle owners mainly measure pressure, oil quantity, water temperature and other sensors, while electric vehicles mainly measure current, gas and other sensors.

  From the perspective of the industrial chain, the automotive sensor industry chain can be divided into three parts. Among them, the upstream of the industrial chain includes new materials, new processes, new manufacturing equipment, etc. MEMS sensor materials are divided into four categories: semiconductor materials, ceramic materials, metal materials and organic materials. In the middle of the industrial chain, the manufacturer of automotive sensors is the owner of automotive sensor technology, responsible for the research and development, production, sales and maintenance of sensors. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning has enabled sensors to better understand and respond to complex driving environments.

  Sensor fusion: In order to improve the accuracy and reliability of environmental perception, different types of sensors (such as radar, lidar, camera, ultrasonic sensors) are being integrated to achieve multi-sensor data fusion.

  Wireless communication and vehicle-to-everything (V2X): In-vehicle sensors are increasingly being combined with wireless communication technologies to support data exchange between vehicles and between vehicles and infrastructure, improving vehicle connectivity.

  Integration and miniaturization: Sensor designs tend to be integrated and miniaturized, making sensor modules more compact, easy to install, and able to provide more functionality in a limited space.

  Higher durability and reliability: In order to adapt to various environmental conditions and driving situations, the durability and reliability of the sensors have been continuously improved, ensuring stable operation in different weather and road conditions.

  In short, the automotive sensor industry is showing a vigorous development trend in terms of market size, technology trends, industrial chain structure and market competition. In the future, with the further development and growth of autonomous driving technology and new energy vehicle market, the automotive sensor market will usher in a broader development space. At the same time, domestic enterprises also need to continuously increase R&D investment and technological innovation to enhance their competitiveness and seize market share.
